Job Description: Part-Time Director of the Central Food Ministry of Lowell
Compensation & Schedule:

This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week at a rate up to $24 per hour.
​
About The Role:
​
Central Food Ministry (CFM) of Lowell seeks a mission-driven, collaborative leader to serve as its part-time Director. This individual will play a key role in sustaining and advancing CFM’s impact as a Christian social services volunteer organization serving Lowell, MA and surrounding communities. The Director reports to the Board of Trustees.
CFM provides food and other essential items to those in need on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with an additional distribution on Thursday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Core Responsibilities:
​
The Director is accountable for the effective coordination, resourcing, and quality assurance of the following key operational processes. This includes identifying and overseeing the appropriate volunteers, contractors, or partners to carry out these functions (not directly performing all tasks):

Food Procurement & Logistics: Ensure food is ordered and picked up on schedule; coordinate volunteer drivers and support as needed.

Facility Operations: Work with shift leaders to ensure the facility is regularly opened and secured on operating days and that the necessary number of shift volunteers will be present.

Facility Maintenance: Oversee upkeep of the physical space by coordinating with volunteers, trustees, and external contractors.

Database & Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate data entry, maintenance, and reporting, especially in support of government and agency reporting requirements.

Grants & Fundraising: Coordinate the grant applications and fundraising efforts to sustain and grow CFM’s operations.
The Director has direct responsibility for the following relationship-building and strategic leadership duties:

Community Engagement: Foster strong collaborative relationships within the communities served by CFM by serving as the organization’s representative to the City of Lowell, Project Bread, Merrimack Valley Food Bank, the Hunger & Homeless Commission, and other agencies (typically attending two meetings per month).

Public Presence: When practical, engage with media, local churches, local businesses, and schools to promote awareness of and participation in CFM’s mission.

Board Engagement: Participate in regular monthly Board of Trustees meetings; provide updates, share insights on strategy and policy, and support decision-making.

Fundraising Participation: Actively participate in fundraising activities as requested by the Board.

Desired Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Strong computer skills, including intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and the ability to quickly learn and effectively use specialized software tools for client database management and fundraising used by Central Food Ministry.

Experience working with community-based organizations, volunteers, or faith-based service groups.
-
Ability to delegate effectively, while maintaining accountability for overall program success.

Comfort navigating both strategic and operational needs of a small nonprofit.

Commitment to Christian values and the mission of serving those in need.
Additional Information:

Other duties may be assigned by the Board of Trustees as needed to support the ongoing mission and operations of CFM.

Get Involved

Volunteer
Help to sort, bag and distribute food on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM or Thursdays, 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
Outside of these shifts, we look for ad hoc assistance to:

Sort recently donated items, like clothing and small household goods
-
Maintain and clean our facility

Provide translation assistance for clients (Cambodian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese)

Update record and book-keeping

Collect Items to Donate
One very simple way to help would be to hold a drive for the items our clients request most:

Canned goods and nonperishable food
-
Winter coats, hats, gloves, mittens, and blankets
-
Back to school supplies
-
Personal care and hygiene items
-
Baby diapers and wipes
-
Gift cards to area supermarkets
Your company, group, school, or church can schedule a time for a representative from CFM to make a presentation to discuss becoming a partner in the mission work in Lowell. Use this as an opportunity to encourage volunteerism and serve to those in need.
