| The
Central Food Ministry is a non-profit organization that acquires
and distributes food, clothing, supplies, and spiritual support
to financially disadvantage residents of Lowell, Massachusetts.
It is the mission of Central Food Ministry to provide not only food
and clothing for the physical needs of the body; but also spiritual
food for the mind by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ; as well
as spiritual guidance and other support to families in need of assistance.
Support is delivered in a non-judgmental, spiritually enriching
environment.
GENERAL
STATISTICS
- Each Family receives a 5 day supply of food per visit for each
member of the family.
- Clients are eligible every 30 days for food.
- Approximately
19,000 individuals comprised of 6,500 families (40-50%
children) are served.
- The number
of handicapped individuals served almost tripled from 1998.
- The majority
of families/individuals are either White or Hispanic.
- The majority
of families/individuals come from City of Lowell.
- Most other
families/individuals come from the surrounding towns of
Dracut, Chelmsford and Tewksbury (fifteen communities in all).
- 100 plus
volunteers work over 10,000 hours
at the pantry in a given year.
- The pantry
distributes over 600,000 pounds of food as well as thousands of
items of clothing, coats and household items.
